Day Trip & Last Week

Happy Holiday weekend!
This last week we had a pretty low key normal week. Schooling, learning, exploring, library trip, activities of ballet, fencing, young women's and scouts, and grocery shopping. Wednesday after some at home studies our son asked to go to the zoo for the remainder of our school time. Our daughter wanted to stay home so it was an impromptu mother son outing.  It was warm out but there were still plenty of animals to view. His favorite that day was the bears- the keepers had hid treats all around the enclosure and we sat for quite some time watching the black bear dive into a huge tire to pull out a carrot, climb a tree and scale up another log to scout a the hidden treats.

Our family book the last few weeks has been the first Harry Potter book. We have a board game which has questions specifically pertaining to the book (not just the movie) so we've been having family read aloud time taking turns with it each day after lunch time.

Our daughter has been spending more time this last week with her art and designing characters for her book. She's enjoying sharing her art on the deviant art site.

Our son has been exploring a new music making program and has been experimenting and making his own songs with it - its easy and free....

Then yesterday, Saturday we went to a fencing tournament in the morning and observed. Our son being so new to the sport did not enter but we watched his classmates compete. After we grabbed a quick lunch and headed on a little trip out of town to Jerome, AZ to sight see. We had never been and plan on going back. It was very historic, tons of neat old buildings, museums and fun little shops to go into.
“America’s Most Vertical City” and “Largest Ghost Town in America”

A beautiful day for a beautiful drive....

Zoo Day

Yesterday we ventured out to a homeschool field trip at the Humane Society and learned about their facility, animals and the care and services they provide. Then we ventured to the zoo. Our first trip to the zoo in our new town to get our year membership so that we can participate in their monthly home school zoo classes! We didn't venture around the entire zoo but stayed a bit to see what they had. It was a fun experience as we've only been to our hometown San Diego zoo previously!

A couple pics from our afternoon...

Fun day!

Day Trip - Road Trip

Family impromptu road trip yesterday to Phoenix. Our daughter needed some different ballet flat shoes so we ventured an hour and a half from us to the big city to look at a few stores. Its nice to do a day trip road trip. Sight see, stop along the way. We have a few others in mind we'd like to do as well....Flagstaff and Jerome to name two. Probably venture in the next few weeks and month. Some hiking spots, sight seeing spots. Today Sunday we rest, staying home, working in the yard, soaking up some quiet family time before another week begins and brings activities and schooling.

Happy Weekend All!

First week of August!

We can not believe its already August! We've been moved for a little over a month now and settling in. August is a big month with activities starting (ballet and scouts) and field trips with our new homeschool group. We are getting settled into a schooling routine as well. Although we never stop learning we started carving some specific time out, dedicated time to pursuing interests, learning and growing and exploring around here this month.

First week...With our son we started reviewing math from last year, exploring world war 2, brushing up on spelling and writing and diving in to reading. We love the change we've seen in our son...staying up till 11pm because he can't put a book down. Yeah I'm not going to say no to that!

Our daughter has been continuing her GED prep program, studying the Japanese language/and writing as well as reading and working on her art/drawing.

It was also our 17th wedding anniversary and we celebrated with a family hiking day then a family meal out. The most beautiful day to be spent outdoors. A little sun, a little clouds, breeze and gorgeous.

We've had rain off and on...
 Explored more libraries...
For History we utilized Minecraft Education site for WW2 shelter activity here:
And also read about them here:

We also viewed several youtube videos and our beloved crash course guys for US History.

This month....

Especially when moving or getting moved or getting settled it seems time goes by even quicker. Realizing we haven't posted pictures since the beginning of July I thought I'd unload a few here in this space to share of our July adventures...

Since the 4th of July we have....

*Celebrated a belated Fathers day with a family Movie afternoon: Warcraft & dinner after
*We should buy stock at home depot...because we've bought materials for:
A chicken coop enclosure, a rabbit area and garden boxes (and all have yet to be built due to vaca and rain)
*Road trip to San Diego traveling a different route for the first time
*Saw sand dunes for the first time!
*Look out point
*Did our usual road trip fun and pointed out all the 'strange things' we could find!
*Celebrated in San Diego for Papa's birthday
*Seaworld trip
*Ocean Trip
*Rain off and on once getting home- thunder/lighting
*Our daughter found a family art project she wanted us to do- we all made happy cards to be distributed to hospital patients
*Hair cuts for everyone! Momma, Jordan and Terynity
*Went to our first homeschool park day with our new group!
*Got our YMCA passes and went swimming!

August is just around the corner....

It is the start of a brand new homeschool year. Start of a new dance studio for our daughter, a new scout troop for our son. We look to getting everything 'built' this coming month. We also look forward to exploring the area more and getting outdoors and doing some hiking. We are loving our new home town.

Blessed.

Adventuring

We knew when we moved we'd be adventuring, hiking and in the outdoors even more. Today we ventured to a new to us lake. There are several lakes close in the area, and this was the 3rd one we've gone to so far. Each is different and we're excited to try out all the hiking trails, fishing, go picnicking and just relaxing. Today we visited Goldwater Lake. Only 10 minutes outside of Prescott, it is close and gorgeous and nestled in the pine trees. For a moment it brought me back to Idaho. Those tree's! We see some more trips here in our future for sure....

A little info on the lake:  Goldwater Lake

Beautiful family day adventuring.
