Cuero, TX - Yoakum, TX - Hallettsville, TX Travels

Another little day trip under an hour inland from where we were staying. We decided to explore a few more small towns in the area more mid-north. We visited Cuero, Yoakum and Hallettsville, Texas. They are all around 1 hour to the coastline.

Cuero, TX - -

Cuero is a cute little town that offers a lot and is close to several big cities Cuero is a family friendly town that's big on football.
The city of Cuero had its start in the mid-19th century as a stopping point on the Chisholm Trail cattle route to Kansas. Today, agriculture is still the primary industry in the region. Cuero is considered to be one of the top cattle producers and shippers in Texas.
Cuero has a population of 8,297. They do have big city amenities such as a feed store/tractor supply, hardware store, grocery store, Walmart, and Napa auto parts. There is a large community park with lake and the town also borders the Guadalupe River for fishing and swimming.

We definitely also really enjoyed this town and its surrounding area - there are more rolling hills vs only flat land, but still lots of trees and green and the city has a lot of community events and gatherings which we were looking for. Weekend farmers markets, support of the local high school, parades, Christmas festivals etc.

Yoakum, Tx - -  Yoakum is on the Lavaca-DeWitt county line. It was built on a league of land granted to John May by the government of Coahuila and Texas in 1835 and was used as a gathering place for cattle to be driven up the Chisholm Trail. The town of Yoakum did not grow until the construction of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in 1887. At this time a townsite was laid out and named after Benjamin F. Yoakum, vice president and general manager of the line.
The first commercial tomatoes were grown in Yoakum and the town is called the tomato capital of south central Texas.
Yoakum is smaller with a population of 5,996 but offers a grocery store, ace hardware, general store, and drug store in town.

We didn't really stop in this town due to the size/and not much surrounding. So only a few photos were taken.

Hallettsville, TX - -

Founded in 1836, the year of Texas Independence, Hallettsville was named for Mrs. John Hallett, who gave the land on which it stands. Today, the City of Hallettsville is known as the “City of Hospitality”. Hallettsville is a welcoming and family-oriented rural community.
Hallettsville is by far the smallest town we visited thus far with a population of 2,627. Its located just under 2 hours to either San Antonio or to Houston. For being so tiny it offers big amenities such as a Walmart, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Tractor Supply, Feed Store, True value Hardware store and general grocery store as well as a large hospital/medical facility. There is a large city park in the center of town. The town also borders the Lavaca River for fishing. The town centers on its courthouse square with downtown shops surrounding.

This area was just gorgeous and surprising that there was so much here for being such a small population. I really loved this town but hubbie's #1 was Cuero.
