George West, TX - Beeville, TX - Corpus Christi, TX Travels

 Another day trip! The furthest town only 37-40 minutes from where we are staying. We ventured to George West, and Beeville. Although on the drive in to our camp site we skirted the edge of Beeville we wanted to return for a better look around. We also took a different day trip to Corpus Christi, only about 40 minutes again from the state park.

George West, TX - -

George West is a city in Live Oak County, Texas, United States, and named for cattle rancher George Washington West.  Originally from Shannonville Tennessee, West began to build his town in 1913, after ranching from 1880 to 1912 in the area between Pleasanton and Corpus Christi. Population is 2,566. George West is in Live Oak County and is voted one of the best places to live in Texas. Living in George West offers residents a suburban rural mix feel and most residents own their homes. Many families live in George West and residents tend to lean conservative. The public schools in George West are highly rated. George west is 1 hour to the coast and 1.5 hours to San Antonio.

Beeville, TX - -

Beeville has a larger population at 12,912.Many of the stately homes, commercial buildings, and schools in the area, including the Bee County Courthouse, were designed by architect William Charles Stephenson, who came to Beeville in 1908 from Buffalo, New York. Beeville is a National Main Street City. Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mount Rushmore, and son Lincoln, took up residence in the city during the time Rushmore was being sculpted.

Corpus Christi, TX - -

One afternoon separate from our small town day trip we ventured down to Corpus Christi. We wanted to see the beach in that area, the bigger city, and the USS Lexington. We didn't go on the USS Lexington tour- definitely would like to another time but were happy we got to see it in person and view the displays out front.

                      More fun family times exploring, sight seeing and venturing to new places.

Lake Corpus Christi, TX Travels

 Lake Corpus Christi is located in Mathis, TX (population 4,867). It is a reservoir in coastal southern Texas. The lake was created by impoundment of the Nueces River by the Wesley E. Seale Dam opened in 1958. The lake and the dam that creates it are managed by the City of Corpus Christi. Lake Corpus Christi was originally known as Lake Lovenskiold. The lake is 30 miles from the coastline of Corpus Christi and under 2 hours to San Antonio.

Fish in the water include White bass, Blue catfish, Channel catfish, Redear sunfish, Largemouth bass. This area is an important stopover for Neotropical migrant birds. There are more than 200 bird species in the park.

We spent time here relaxing, fishing, bbq'ing and enjoying the beautiful views and gorgeous sunsets over the lake.

Goliad, TX Travels

 We are extremely happy with our decision to purchase a Texas States Park Pass. We have primarily stayed in State parks and they have all been outstanding. Its also nice that all the spaces have a picnic table, bbq grill and fire ring. They also have bathrooms/and shower facilities. With our pass and discounts we usually end up staying at a state park for only $15 a night. (A few places have been cheaper and one was a tiny bit more).

We really enjoyed our four day stay in Goliad. Tons of history here. We visited the Mission, Presidio La Bahia, Downtown-Courthouse square and Oak Hill Cemetery (1800 settlers) and a fun little in town 'fort' park-playground.

Native Americans, Spanish explorers and missionaries, Texian soldiers and early settlers walked the land of what is now Goliad State Park and Historic Site in southeast Texas. Goliad borders the San Antionio River 

Goliad is a tiny town of 2,028. It is known for the 1836 Goliad massacre during the Texas Revolution. It is about 40 miles inland from the coast. La Bahía is a fort constructed by the Spanish Army that became the nucleus of the modern-day city of Goliad.

Moving day is here and it was a wonderful experience in this tiny town with a huge history in Texas. The camp site was gorgeous with trails and wildflowers galore. We're ready for our next family adventure ahead-
